In view of Bishop Lesslie Newibigin’s birth centenary fell in the year 2009, the Institution is named as CSI Bishop Newbigin College of Education . Bishop Lessslie Newbigin served in the Diocese of Madras from 1965 to 1975. The College founder Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. V. Devasahayam with all other Office Bearers of CSI Diocese of Madras fixed a pearl stone on the jewel of CSI Madras Diocesan by opening the Institution on September 2009 with a vision to train prospective teachers who will be competent, committed and resourceful to serve the nation with a mission. The college was inaugurated in a grand manner with 100 students. Dr. Mrs. Kiruba Charles was appointed as the first Principal. The college had eight major departments like Tamil, English, Physical Science, Biological Science, History and Economics which was extended in 2010 by adding the Department of Commerce and prospering as a best B.Ed. college in chennai. The college is recognized by NCTE No. F.SRO/NCTE/APSO9200/B.Ed/TN/2014-15/63402dt. 21.04.2015 and affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University No. TNTEU/R/Affin/Syn./- Feb. 2016 – Item No. 07/2016/119 dt. 03.02.2016.
